The National Carrier operate with five Airbus A340-300, two Airbus A319-100, two Boeing 767 ER, one ATR 72-500, 2 ATR 42-500 and three Bell Range helicopters. The National Carrier contributes significantly to the export-oriented Mauritian economy. Air Mauritius Cargo carries some 42,000 tons yearly and, in the perspective of increased transit activities, the storage capacities have already been increased by 25%. Air Mauritius HistoryAir Mauritius was incorporated in June 1967 and started its operations modestly. By 1998, Air Mauritius was approved as a JAR (Joint Aviation Requirements) 145 Maintenance Organisation by the French Direction Generale de L'Aviation Civile (DGAC). That means Air Mauritius can perform maintenance on aircraft and components belonging to the member states of the Joint Aviation Authorities and that the company can sell its services to other airlines in the region that require a JAR 145 release.
