The University of Hull has moved five places up the rankings, according to
the league tables published by The Times newspaper in 2005. Eight courses
were also placed in the top 20 nationally, including three in the top 10.
The University was judged among the country’s top 20 for teaching quality,
ranking 19th.
Among the departments which performed particularly well – forming part of
the top-10 line-up – were Iberian Languages (Spanish), at 4th in the
country; Social Work, which ranked 6th; Drama, which came 7th. Among the top
20 subjects nationally were Electrical Engineering, 11th; Italian, 13th;
American Studies, at 17th; and Anthropology and Social Policy, ranking joint
18th. Subject rankings were decided according to factors including research
capability, teaching quality and students’ A-Level scores on starting their
courses.
